Room Swap in Progress

Didn't do any sewing this weekend. We've been busy doing some rearranging.   Micaela and I started the monumental task of swapping the paper craft room and her bedroom.  My paper craft room is stuffed to the gills and her room isn't far behind.  Believe it or not this was my idea.  I've needed to deal with the paper craft room for a long time and Micaela was ready for a complete color scheme change so here we go.

We are about 15% so far... one wall and some of the closet.  Her room is going to be in transition for several weeks because I only have the evenings to work on  it with so much going on during the weekends.

Here is the east wall with out her dresser.  I've always loved the wood picket fence flower border... so now I get to have it in the craft room.  Micaela wants a new color scheme now that she is seven, hot pink, lime green, and black & white; in her words:  "nothing spring".

Here is the same wall with some of the craft stuff in place.  That triple dresser is full of stamp sets.

After much thought, I decided it was time to get rid of my beloved paper rack that held 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock.  I posted a picture on Facebook and it was spoken for in 15 minutes.
This room transition is going to take us quite some time.  My goal is to get it done by the time school starts the 3rd week in August.   Thanks for stopping by....

Fabric Organization Wall

I've struggled with a good way to organize my fabric (mainly fat quarters and less than a yard cuts) for a long time.  So far this system is working.  This wall is opposite the wall where my embroidery machines are located. These are CD racks and the fabrics are organized by color and theme.

I am on the verge of ourgrowing this but for now this holds all my "small" pieces of fabric, you can see some cubies have more room than others.   The rest of my fabric (mainly large pieces) are in the cubeical bins below the CD racks and are also organized by theme or type as well

If you follow my blog, you might remember a picture of my sewing area last year where I had the racks on the ground  in the corner by the window.   When I started to run out of space, I had the idea to turn the cubeical bin (that was on the wall where the bed is now) on it's side and put the racks on top.  (Don't know why it took me so long to think of that!).  The CD racks are extremely sturdy and quite heavy so they can hold the weight of the fabric well.  I had a difficult time getting all three, it took me about 6-8 months to "find" them because I refused to pay regular price $40.    I actually found two at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore here in McKinney (9 months apart)  and the last one at a neighbor's yard sale last fall.

Here is a picture of the entire wall .  You can see how all of the posts I've done for the last month or so fit together.  The fabric letter banner, button wreath, lamp shade, covered cans, pillows on the bed, etc.  My space is still a work in progress but I think it's coming together nicely.  I got all my ideas from looking at craft rooms on Pinterest, I hope this inspires someone else.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a nice day!

Craft Room Organization

One of my goals for 2010 is to get a grip on my craft room which is usually the messiest room in the house. The main reason it is messy is because it's full. I am trying to do a little every few days. Here's one shelf that looks decent enough to share.I love putting things in jars because then I can see what I have. Since I am all about the 3R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) these are all repurposed. The small jars actually have some sentimental value-- would you believe those are the jars of our daughter's first (Enfamil) formula bottles from the hospital when she was born? Yep! I thought they were so cute and a perfect size for embellishments. The nurse actually looked at me quite strangely when I asked if I could keep them and take them home (my husband was a little --no, very- embarrassed). Anyway-- they work so who cares! The jars with the red lids are from Jiffy peanut butter and the ones with blue lids are from Lipton tea mix-- both work great for larger items. All are sitting on steps for spices from The Container Store.

The clear nesting tower boxes are from The Paper Lion, a local invitation store. Right now they are holding an over abundance of ribbon that I purchased on clearance. The little shelf above the jars is from IKEA-- that's my tiny collection of Martha Stewart punches.
