Came home from our glorious trip to Kauai. We had a wonderful time with 30+ family members. It's been a few days and I am still adjusting to the time change. I think my body liked it when I got up at 6am Hawaii time...but somehow 12 noon doesn't really work in Texas.
When we arrived at our house, I had a wonderful package from my partner in the Patriotic Sewing Swap waiting for me. The package contained four hand made items and this mini quilt is my favorite.
Isn't this lovely! Angie my partner, did a fabulous job. I love setting a patriotic table and this goes perfect with my Stars & Stripes Hartstone dinnerware I purchased in the 90's during Desert Storm (back when my love for tabletop began).
I'll show the other items in the next few days. Thanks for stopping by!

Farewell Fiesta
Buenos Dias everyone,
Yesterday we had a Farewell Fiesta for one of my coworkers at work. Somehow, I was given the task to plan the party. How does that happen to me all of the time?
Our coworker is relocating to Pennsylvania so obviously leaving Texas. I asked her what she would miss the most "Texas BBQ or Tex Mex cuisine". Once she said Tex-Mex, that was all I needed to start planning the menu and theme for the party.
Now PLEASE keep in mind this party was at work, on our conference room table no less so I could not do things to the extent that I would do at home. I planned a simple gathering at the end of the day so everyone could come by and bid our friend farewell. I played Mexican music but I had to keep the volume low--- because we were at work...you know what I mean. Along the same lines, I served lemonade instead of margaritas...you get the picture.
The menu was chips and salsa from a favorite local restaurant, El Fenix, queso made by one co-worker, corn salsa by another co-worker, Delimex taquitos with three different fillings, and Nothing Bundt Cakes bundtinis for dessert.
Here is the Fiesta table.
All these dishes and decorations are from my personal collection. I have an extensive collection of stuff in this theme because obviously I am Mexican (LOL) and love seasonal impractical entertaining stuff that you only use once or twice a year. I love getting the chance to use them but hate the hassel of digging them out of my dish closet, wrapping in bubble wrap and carrying off. Oh well....
Here is Cindy with the table. I made her wear that hat in many pictures...LOL. My office door is in the back ground. You can see I hung one of Micaela's little Mexican dresses from when she was a baby on our dry erase board on a make shift clothesline. (My boss thought it was "ineresting", but hey it covered the white board. You can also see the little bull pinata that was the focal point of our table too.
Here is a close up of some of the bundtinis. Nothing Bundt Cakes is a national franchise for delicious bundt cakes, they have around a dozen different flavors. We are lucky to have a location less than two miles from our office. I decorated the bundtinis with fiesta picks I got at the craft store.
Here are the Delimex taquitos.
If you have never had these they are great. The are in the frozen food section at the grocery store. You can deep or pan fry them or bake them in the over. I prefer frying them when it's a small quantity at home but these we baked off in the oven of our break room. We split them in half so they would be more like finger food.
Here is the delicious corn salsa made by one of our co-workers. It was delicioius and I will share the recipe when I get it from her.
Here is a close up of my fabulous letter dishes which are one of my most recent additions to my collection of entertaining stuff. I fell in love when I saw these on Pinterest and quickly ordered some to spell out our daughters name. Over the last 18 months I have been adding more letters to my collection so I can spell out more words. (it's quite addictive but oh so fun to have them on your buffet table). I've even started to give them as gifts and everyone seems to love them. I realized last week that if I ordered an S, I could spell out fiesta... so here is the letter S making a debut with other letters...LOL.
The Farewell Fiesta was FUN. Cindy enjoyed it and everyone enjoyed socializing with people from other departments on a casual basis. The last time we had a farewell party in our department was about five years ago... people just don't leave very often so it might be a while before we do this again...
Thanks for reading this far and I hope you have a great Cinco de Mayo manana!

Soccer Party
Our soccer season is over, we have our Saturday's back! We had a pizza party party to celebrate. Here's our sweets table... nothing really significant to write about except I wanted to share how I put the letters on the wall. I cut these out of felt sheets just like I did the ones on the blanket a few days ago. I 'temporary' adhered them to the wall using fabric basting spray. It was fast, easy and did not leave any residue on the wall. Thanks for stopping by!

"Little Girl" Table for Memorial Day BBQ

We had a BBQ with some dear friends. Micaela decided to set a special "little girl" table. Check it out... She wrote out the placecards herself. She knows exactly where to find the right stuff, notice the flag stirers in the glasses, the little star salf & pepper, and even found a patriotic bear for the centerpiece! Love my girl!

Snowflake Tablescape
After the holidays I like to continue a sparkly theme with snowflakes after all our Christmas decor comes down and before Valentine's Day decorations are up. Some years our Christmas stuff is down in time and others years it isn't. I started the process this year but after a crazy work schedule and a full week of having bad bronchitis, we are moving straight to Valentine's Day. Here's the table several years ago.
It's hard to tell in the picture, but the flatware and linens have snowflakes on them. My favorite item is the placecard holders, my friend Kristi and I found those at Crate & Barrel on a lunch hour shopping mission about 12 years ago. Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Tablescape

This is our breakfast table now. I've been building on a gingerbread theme for about ten years but never had much (gb) on the table. I had a collection of the Sledding Characters dinnerware by Debbie Mumm (mentioned here) and I never got brave enough to mix other stuff with it. Most of the gingerbread accessories around were things in the kitchen. This year I added to my collection....
First, I found these snowflake salad plates at Wal-Mart of all places. I brought one home, thought they looked good and then went back for another 3. Later on I was at Pier One and found the gingerbread shaped plates, bought the last four right on the spot! Two weeks ago I was at Dillards and found the gingerbread house napkin rings, of course had to have them too. The rest of the stuff just came together.
Dinner Plates: Sledding Characters by Debbie Mumm, purchased in 2001
Snowflake Salad Plates: Wal-Mart 2010
Gingerbread Plates & Napkins: Pier One 2010
Gingerbread House napkin rings: Dillard's 2010
Big Bowl in Center: Hobby Lobby 2010
Cupcakes: Kohl's 2009
Placecard Holder: Kohl's 2009
Gingerbread Man: Kirkland's
Here are pictures of a few more things around the kitchen area:

Kitchen Table 2001

Here's the Kitchen Table in my Bonham house (1919 Bungalow) back in 2001. The dinnerware is Sledding Characters by Debbie Mumm. I absolutely had to have it. Remember this was 2001! I bought it piece by piece and then when I the stores ran out resorted to Ebay for more pieces. In the bidding process I met a girl who was bidding on the same stuff. I got brave and sent her an email to figure out what she wanted so we would not keep bidding against each other. (This is back when the user name on ebay was your email address and it wasn't astericks like it is today). Found out the girl was from Texas and around my age. Long story short, we became friends! She and her husband visted me that year and I visited them in 2004. We're still friends ten years later and keep up with each other on facebook. In the end, she got 12 placesettings and I got 8!
I am not as crazy about these dishes now but the story behind them touches my heart so I won't part with them. Micaela thinks they are cute and says she wants them for when she grows up! I am going to find some accessories to go with it for this year's table. I'll be sure to post what I come up with.
Thanks for stopping by!

Thanksgiving Table

Just barely managed to take a quick picture of the table before packing up all of the fall decor and pulling out Christmas. Sorry it's just a placesetting picture, the rest was already packed before I realized I never took a picture this year...
Big Mix of dishes here....
- The chargers are embossed with fall leaves, new-- got them this year.
- The red scrolly plates are actually oversized dinner plates I got about 13 years ago when I was setting up my first townhouse in 1997. Only have four, wish I had at least 8. They were $20 at the time and I only managed 4 and a large serving bowl before the store sold out.
- The bone china with gold rim is from my Dad's 2nd Mom and is nearly 100 years old. It's Pope Gosser China manufactured in the US in the early 1900's. The pattern is Washtonton and the back says "coin gold"-- something I have never seen before. My Dad says these were some of Mrs. MacDaniel's favorite plates and I am happy to have them.
- The embossed plates are from Hobby Lobby... I have had them for about 10 years and luckly have several serving pieces in the same pattern.
- The individual covered soup bowls I have had for about 10 years. I love these on the table and enjoy using them every year. I had the matching toureen and it broke during a move-- still recovering from that :(.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon

I am on the Teacher Appreciation Committee at both of Micaela's schools. Here are a few pictures of the luncheon we hosted for the teachers the week before last.

Some of the dishes and items are mine and some belong other belong to another Mom. We literally traded pictures of dishes through text messages on our IPhones until we came up with enough to coordinate in one theme. In the end, I think everything coordinated beautifully and we were really pleased with the end result.
Luckily we were able to set up in an empty classroom so that made set up a little easier.
Here's the table right before the teachers came in...
The menu was chicken Ceasar salad (dressing to be added), cream of zuchini soup, and homemade cornbread muffins with sun dried tomatoes and passion fruit tea. Robin was responsible for the food and she did a great job.
I've had these wicker chargers since 2003, got 12 of them at Target and this was the first time I really used them. The multi colored dot flatware was also mine, had it from a recent food styling assignment a few years ago. The dinner plates were Robin's mother in laws and they said Montgomery Wards on the back so you know they were 'vintage'. Robin made the runner from outdoor fabric purchased at JoAnns.
We tied bright orange tull to each chair and hung a pair of turquois flip flops for each teacher to keep.
The dessert table was yummy. These are gourmet strawberry cupcakes from Spoon's Cafe in downtown McKinney. These square plates are mine, purchased them at The Great Indoors many years ago and this is the first time they made it out of the box. We had a couple of other desserts, pina colada cake and fresh fruit and a chocolate sauce.
The teachers enjoyed it and we were very pleased.

April was a Big Month...part 1
April started with a lovely Easter weekend. My 5 year old and I had fun setting the table with dishes I purchased more than 10 years ago. Believe it or not, I've had those kissing bunny napkin rings for about 18 years-- I bought them in 1991 when I was in college and should have been spending my hard earned money on things like books not decorating items I would store for more than a decade. Well, all that matters is Micaela enjoyed them in 2010!

Happy New Year TableScape
My KA friend Cindy in Baltimore is hosting a New Year's Eve party. She always comes up with the coolest tablescapes. Isn't this cool? Just a bunch of clocks. I love the elegant look!
