This weekend we were invited to celebrate Cousin Desmon's birthday. The theme for his party was "Batman at the Zoo" so lots of jungle and safari stuff with Batman all rolled up into one theme. Only a 4 year old boy would think of that.
We don't do toys for gifts so I had to get creative since I don't make boy stuff very often. Luckily, I knew about the Batman theme in advance so when I was traveling last month and came across Batman fabric and I very quickly snatched up a half yard to make "something".
I've been thinking of what to make for weeks, I had a pillow in mind but nothing special beyond the name embroidered on it. Then, I was on the Polkadot Chair blog last week and was browsing tutorials and BINGO, the perfect tutorial for an "On the Go" reading pillow.
I followed the tutorial loosely... just the basic idea but made the pillow a tad bigger, the pocket a tad shorter and lined it with coordinating fabric, and made the handle out of fabric with fusible fleece for stability instead of ribbon.
Tada, here it is..... The Batman Pillow!!
I am so pleased with the way this turned out. I think this is going to be my "go to" gift for the next few gifts we need. I can see these pillows in all kinds of great fabrics to match kid's rooms, colors and themes.
Thanks for stopping by.
What a great gift idea, love what you did with the pillow.
